Shortly after Judge Aileen M. Cannon drew the assignment in June 2023 to oversee former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case, two more experienced colleagues on the federal bench in Florida urged her to pass it up and hand it off to another jurist, according to two people briefed on the conversations. The judges who approached Judge Cannon — including the chief judge in the Southern District of Florida, Cecilia M. Altonaga — each asked her to consider whether it would be better if she were to decline the high-profile case, allowing it to go to another judge, the two people said. But Judge Cannon, who was appointed by Mr. Trump, wanted to keep the case and refused the judges’ entreaties.

Severi: Appeals court rejects Steve Bannon’s request to delay prison sentence

Bannon was sentenced to four months in a low-security prison in October of 2022, after he was convicted on two counts of contempt-of-Congress by a jury, for failing to comply with a Congressional subpoena in front of the House January 6 committee. But his report date was delayed after he filed multiple appeals. Two of the three judges in the appeals court rejected the bid to delay the prison sentence. But judge Justin Walker, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, dissented and claimed that Bannon was contesting a “close” precedent, and should be allowed to remain out of prison while he appeals the verdict to the Supreme Court, according to CNN. .

At what point do pro-choice narratives become so encoded in a federal judge’s head that when it comes time to sentence an anti-abortion protester to prison — in this case, an ailing 75-year-old woman who expressed doubts about surviving prison life — that same judge will quip, “Make an effort to remain alive because that’s a “tenet of your religion.” The sentencing of Paulette Harlow, 75, a Catholic, by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly — a graduate of the Catholic University of America and presumably a Catholic, albeit of the cafeteria variety — to two years in prison for violating the Face Act, was an act of judicial cruelty. The Democrats consider this terribly irresponsible.But they happily spend that much in weaponry for a war between Russia and Ukraine, or for hotels, food, education, transportation and hospital bills for illegal aliens. At least President Trump’s proposal is for American workers.

The Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services asked U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton this week to issue an 18-month stay that keeps them from having to release the Food and Drug Administration’s data to Just the News under the Freedom of Information Act. The federal agencies alleged that “exceptional circumstances” exist to necessitate the delay in compliance with the open records law because the FDA is stretched thin by numerous other requests for public information related to the pandemic. Federal lawyers claim the agency hired several new employees to try to speed up processing but that it can take up to two years to train new staff to process such requests.

What the push to federally “regulate” homeschooling really is. In a May 14 opinion piece titled, “Children Deserve Uniform Standards in Homeschooling,”, the editors of Scientific American called for federal homeschooling regulations, going so far as to suggest that parents of homeschooled children “undergo a background check.” The magazine reiterated this message in its June 17 “Today in Science” newsletter. The op-ed cited data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) which stated that nearly 3% of American children — that’s 1.5 million kids — were homeschooled in 2019. That number rose dramatically during and in the wake of the pandemic nightmare, which at least had the positive benefit of giving many parents an eye-opening revelation about the kind of dumbing-down indoctrination and predatory sexualization that their children were being exposed to in the woke public school system. […] It is important to note that Scientific American has been captured by woke ideology to such an extent that City-Journal devoted a lengthy recent article called “Unscientific American” to detailing how the mag has gone from covering popular science to promoting social-justice-in-science […] Anyway, the editors argue that the “federal government must develop basic standards for safety and quality of education in homeschooling across the country.” They add that homeschooling parents should be required to undergo a background check — the same as K-12 teachers. By the way, to see just how effective a background check is, scroll through the videos at Libs of Tik Tok for the countless examples of openly radical freaks and groomers that somehow managed to get hired to teach our children. […] The upshot is this: the aim of the neo-Marxist Left is to break down the family unit by de-legitimizing parents’ legal and moral right to determine how their own children are raised. The Left wants to take your children and grandchildren and raise them as loyal, dependent subjects of the atheistic State, disconnected from their own history and culture, and devoid of critical thinking skills, intellectual independence, or a spiritual dimension. This is no conspiracy theory; the evidence for it comes directly from the horse’s mouth, with many so-called “educators” proudly proclaiming on social media that they consider themselves activists and revolutionaries out to dismantle or smash every social norm. “I’m your parent now,” they openly tell the schoolchildren in their charge. This is not merely an unacceptable state of affairs; it is predatory, civilizationally destructive, and ultimately satanic.

The hyperpolitical, leftist Pope has been, by his own words, engaged in irreversibly (he hopes) and increasingly modifying (according to his own predilections) the Catholic Church since he took papal office. Sound like anybody you know? Viganò has been consistently faithful to Canon Law and to the established teachings of the Church, his warnings falling against a wall of thunderous silence from most of the Western bishops (some in America have supported him) and various dogbodies who tend to the administrative bidding of the Vatican rather than to follow the clear teachings of Jesus and his apostolic instructions. Viganò’s positions are therefore judged by Pope Francis and his like as those of a conservative and faithful priest — not a globalist or environmentalist or an advocate of a post-national, socialist world. Six years after California legalized marijuana, the bodies keep piling up. Earlier this year, six men were murdered in the Mojave desert. Four of the Latino men had been burned after being shot with rifles. In 2020, seven people were killed at an illegal pot operation in Riverside County. Violence like this was supposed to disappear after legalization. Legalization advocates argued that making the drug trade legal would end the grip of the cartels. Instead the legal market has failed and the cartels are taking over sizable parts of California and the rest of the country. California’s legal drug revenues have fallen consistently as have those in other legal drug states including Colorado whose model helped sell the idea that drug money would fix everything.

The debate in Toronto gripped, appalled and surprised. Two days ago, a gripping debate took place in Toronto. The latest in the Munk Debates on major policy issues run by a Canadian charitable foundation, Monday evening’s event advanced the motion “Anti-Zionism is antisemitism”. It was proposed by the writer Douglas Murray and international lawyer Natasha Hausdorff, and opposed by the Guardian journalist Mehdi Hasan and Israeli anti-Zionist Ha’aretz writer Gideon Levy. In an audience vote before the start of the debate, 61 per cent supported the proposition with 39 per cent opposed. In 2019, I took part in an Intelligence Squared debate in London on an identically worded motion. This is the same French government [which banned Israel from participating in Eurosatory 2024 defense industry trade fair] so obsessed with appearing inclusive and non-discriminatory that it recently supported a bill that outlaws discrimination based on hair texture, length, color or style.
Meanwhile, the French government did not think it necessary to ban the participation of China, presently indulging in two genocides – against Tibetans and against Uyghurs – from participating in Eurosatory. China’s representation at the trade fair counts around 61 defense companies.
The French government also did not ban… Turkey, which has been taken to the International Criminal Court for committing crimes against humanity against hundreds of thousands of opponents of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruthless regime…
