Maron: I’m the NYC mom who was booted from a parent council over calling out antisemitism — I refuse to be silenced
Manhattan mom Maud Maron was booted from the parent council of the city’s largest school district because she spoke out against hate in a February New York Post article about an anti-Israel op-ed published anonymously in Stuyvesant High School’s student newspaper. The city Department of Education determined her criticism was “derogatory and offensive.” Maron has also been publicly bashed for private remarks she’s made about transgender students. She was expelled from the Community Education Council for District 2 — which covers most of lower and midtown Manhattan and the Upper East Side — as was the president of Brooklyn’s CEC 14, Tajh Sutton, who banned Jewish parents from meetings and organized pro-Palestine student walkouts. Maron, 53, is one of three plaintiffs in a lawsuit charging CEC 14 and Chancellor David Banks with violating First Amendment rights to free speech. On Saturday, she tells The Post she refuses to be silenced.

Since the 1960s, the military-industrial complex has influenced and driven American policy to profit cynically from conflict and war. At work since 2016, the pernicious CIC gained strength during the Covid-19 pandemic, amplifying government-approved narratives that favored the agenda of the elites. Howe: Supreme Court strikes down bump stock ban
The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a rule that banned bump stocks, issued by the Trump administration after a 2017 mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas. By a vote of 6-3, the justices rejected the federal government’s argument that rifles equipped with bump stocks are machine guns, which are generally prohibited under federal law. In an opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas, the court’s conservative justices emphasized that Congress could have enacted a law that banned all weapons capable of high rates of fire, but it did not – and so the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives was wrong to interpret the federal ban on machine guns to extend to bump stocks. Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, in an opinion joined by the court’s other more liberal justices, Justices Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. She warned that the majority’s decision “will have deadly consequences.” […] Unlike some gun-rights cases that have come before the Supreme Court recently, Cargill’s case did not involve the Second Amendment right to bear arms, but instead a federal law that defines a machine gun as any weapon that can fire “more than one shot,” “automatically” and “by a single function of the trigger.” In a highly technical 19-page ruling, Thomas concluded that the law does not support the ATF’s rule banning bump stocks. First, he explained, semiautomatic rifles that are equipped with bump stocks do not file more than one shot “by a single function of the trigger.” Each time that a shooter fires the rifle, Thomas emphasized, the shooter must “release pressure from the trigger and allow it to reset before reengaging the trigger for another shot.” The bump stock, he wrote, “merely reduces the amount of time that elapses between separate ‘functions’ of the trigger” by allowing the shooter to quickly press the trigger again.

“[The law] does not allow aliens to seek remission of removal orders in perpetuity based on arguments they could have raised in a hearing that they chose to skip” In a 5-4 ruling Friday, the Supreme Court erased a loophole that allowed foreigners to avoid deportation proceedings by citing a paperwork technicality. The case centered on three illegal immigrants: Moris Esmelis Campos-Chaves, an El Salvador native who entered the country illegally in 2005 through Texas; Varinder Singh, a man from India who illegally entered the U.S. in 2016 by “climbing over a fence” in California; and Mexico-native Raul Daniel Mendez-Colín, who illegally entered the U.S. in 2001 in Arizona. The trio argued that their deportation notices did not meet the criteria for a proper notice as prescribed by the law. […] Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, dissenting alongside Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Neil Gorsuch, argued the majority was shifting the burden onto “noncitizens” who are “perhaps unfamiliar with this country and its laws” and “tasking them with the responsibility of addressing the government’s mistakes.”

Politicians are implementing increasingly stringent regulations for dishwashers, washing machines, and other appliances. There have even been reports of a desire to phase out gas stoves. What’s your take on all of this? Doug Casey: As Der Schwabenklaus of the World Economic Forum boldly said some years ago, “You’ll own nothing and be happy.” The fact that a prominent figure could actually say that, promote the idea, and not be pilloried gives you an idea of the spirit of the current century. The lack of outrage from the average man is even more sick than the idea itself. Not owning appliances is a practical application of the meme, but just one tentacle of the global warming octopus. Appliances are constructed from resources that have to be mined and run with electricity; that makes them evil. It’s much more important in these people’s views to “save the planet”—a ridiculous concept—than to continue raising the standard of living. The fact is that the self-righteous authoritarians who want to limit the use of appliances basically just hate people—especially middle-class people. They’d really like to revert to pre-capitalist times, when only the upper classes, the feudal aristocrats, could benefit from conveniences. Eco-warriors, the Greens, are cut from the same cloth as socialists, communists, and fascists. Their totem fruit is the watermelon, green on the outside and red on the inside.

About two weeks ago President Biden’s Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm made an announcement that did not receive much notice given the enormous underlying concession and major potential policy shift it contained. Granholm said matter-of-factly that if the United States is going to meet it ambitious Net-Zero emissions by 2050 target, “we have to at least triple our current nuclear capacity in this country. That means we’ve got to add 200 more gigawatts by 2050.” Granholm then doubled down with the suggestion that we might need to consider restarting nuclear plants that have been shut down in recent years. This declaration, which Granholm has repeated at subsequent appearances since she first said this on June 7, represents a decisive break with longstanding environmental orthodoxy in at least two ways. First, it implicitly acknowledges that wind, solar, grid-scale batteries, and other “renewables” will be insufficient to supply America’s electricity needs, despite the massive subsidies and relentless cheerleading for these inherently limited sources of power. Five hundred million for BARRCOME — bureaucracy, administration, rules, regulations, compliance, oversight, mandates, and enforcement — but not a penny for those who provide care. In fact, the money for the bureaucrats will be taken away from patient care. Witness former President Obama’s taking $716 billion from the Medicare Trust to pay (only partly) for his BARRCOME in his ACA. After six months of Iran using its Houthi Jihadis to impose a blockade near Yemen while defying Biden to do anything about it, the Islamic global terror state is moving on to a Somali blockade. Current reports suggest that the Houthis, an Iranian Shiite terror group, is negotiating to provide weapons to Yemen’s Al-Shabaab, a Sunni Jihadist group allied with Al Qaeda, to expand Iran’s control over shipping. In Iran, there is a saying: Israel needs its weapons to protect its people. And Hamas needs its people to protect its weapons. This saying is the shortest description of the dilemma that in Gaza you cannot separate the civilian from the military. And that applies not only to the buildings, but also to the personnel in the buildings. The Israeli army was forced into this trap in its response to October 7. Not lured, but forced. Forced to defend itself and to make itself guilty by destroying the infrastructure with all the civilian victims. And it is precisely this inevitability that Hamas wanted and is exploiting. Since then, it has been directing the news that goes out to the world. The sight of suffering disturbs us daily. But no war reporter can work independently in Gaza. Hamas controls the selection of images and orchestrates our feelings. Our feelings are their strongest weapon against Israel. He describes the annihilation of Jewish villages in Poland by the Reserve Police Battalion 110, when the large gas chambers and crematoria in Auschwitz did not yet exist. It was like the bloodlust of the Hamas terrorists at the music festival and in the kibbutzim. In just one day in July 1942, the 1,500 Jewish inhabitants of the village of Józefów were slaughtered. Children and infants were shot in the street in front of their houses, the old and sick in their beds. All the others were driven into the forest, where they had to strip naked and crawl on the ground. They were mocked and tortured, then shot and left lying in a bloody forest. East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen expressed outrage over the incident and said new yearbooks will be ordered. “At a minimum, I have […] been assured that new yearbooks will be ordered and distributed with the correct pictures and names,” Cohen wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “Hate has no place in East Brunswick and antisemitism will not be tolerated.”

Stahl: Porn Advocates Sue Indiana AG Over Law Shielding Minors From Online Filth
Free Speech Coalition, Inc. and several pornography website operators filed a lawsuit against Todd Rokita, the Indiana attorney general on Monday. The group seeks to block a recent law that prevents minors from accessing pornography websites from going into effect. The lawsuit comes after a series of unsuccessful legal challenges in seven other states, where the pornography lobbyists claimed similar regulations violated constitutional rights and federal law. Central to the plaintiffs’ argument is that pornography is a fundamental right protected by the First Amendment. Therefore, any law regulating its distribution must pass strict scrutiny or be the least restrictive means of accomplishing a compelling government interest. However, the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court has already ruled on an equivalent Texas law that, based on the precedent set in Ginsberg v. New York (1968), the distribution of obscene or sexually explicit materials to minors is subject to the much lower standard of rational-basis review. The Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal on this decision.

First Presbyterian Church in Memphis offered “glitter blessings” during a pride month festival and on Sunday the congregation held a full-blown gay pride worship service.
The “Christian” service included a children’s sermon about a cat who visits a lesbian family, a soloist warbling Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” and a homily about tolerance preached by a Jewish rabbi. The service concluded with an instrumental version of “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”
The Presbyterians stopped just short of inviting a brigade of drag queens to take up the offering. Imagine the scene as parishioners passed by the altar to stuff their tithes and offerings into thongs as the queens belted out, “It’s Raining Men.” […] “Are we going to have an adultery pride month? Starnes: TV Station Fires Staffer Over ‘Straight Pride’ Post
The post, on her personal page, featured a meme with a newlywed man and woman that stated, “Celebrate Straight Pride,” “It’s Natural, It Has Worked for Thousands of Years,” “And You Can Make Babies!” That statement apparently contradicts company policy at WFMJ, a television station owned by the Maag family. They launched an immediate investigation that eventually led to Ms. Pinkard’s dismissal. “WFMJ has terminated the employment of our Community Relations Director following her unauthorized post on a company-linked social media site last week,” the company wrote on Facebook. “We do not condone such actions and apologize to you, our viewers, for this unauthorized post.” Again, the post was made on her personal page. […] Again, it’s never enough. When you offend the Alphabet Activists they will destroy you — especially if you work in the television news agency. It’s like a modern-day Gestapo.

We all know what this month means: Pride. But Pride in what? Well, in pride. If you had successfully reversed several millennia of religious teaching that sodomy is a moral abomination in a mere 50 years, you’d be proud too. First Lady Jill Biden is proud. At the Human Rights Campaign in Los Angeles, she crowed: 2. “He [Joe Biden] ended the ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood.” (That’s not enough! How about demanding an end to the discrimination against infected blood in the first place?) 3. “And he’s standing firmly against conversion therapy.” (Even for straight guys who want to become gay? Or do you simply throw them into a San Francisco bathhouse and wait?) 4. […]The Wall Street Journal has reminded us that “Same-Sex Marriage [why didn’t a proofreader catch this oxymoron?] Marks a Big Anniversary.” Yes, indeed, 20 years is a big one. The article’s subtitle reads: “After 20 years, study finds largely positive effects, defying the ‘dire’ predictions.” In fact, the Rand organization study, according to the Journal, “finds that the consequences of two decades of legal same-sex marriage [there’s that oxymoron again] have been broadly positive for gay and straight Americans alike.” Hmm, doesn’t that require overlooking some things? Accompanying the celebratory story are […] Let’s close with a foreign policy related story. Homosexuals are seeking to influence U.S. policy in the Middle East, with groups such as “Gays for Palestine” and “Queers for Palestine.” Perhaps we could arrange a Hamas tour of Palestine for them so they can see what happens to “gays and queers” over there. Fr. Mario Alexis Portella: What Is Missing in the Inter-religious Dialogue With Muslims?
Last month was the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue. Formerly called the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, it created the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims with the end not to covert those who profess Islam to the teachings of Christ but “to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between Catholics and the followers of others religious traditions; to encourage the study of religions, and to promote the formation of persons dedicated to dialogue.” The public rapport with the Islamic world has been a hallmark of Pope Francis’ papacy, as seen by his numerous visits to Islamic communities and Muslim-majority countries. Sustaining, as proclaimed by the Vatican II Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions, Nostra Aetate, that Muslims “together with us, adore the One, Merciful God,” the pontiff says: “[I]t is not possible to establish true links with God while ignoring other people. Hence it is important to intensify dialogue among the various religions, and I am thinking particularly of dialogue with Islam.” Catholics who have engaged in such dialogue, either as a one-shot experience or in the context of an ongoing group, tend to abstain from mentioning the name of “Jesus” as the divine Son of God for fear of offending Muslims—while Muslims accept Jesus as a prophet, they deny that He is God’s Son just as they deny the Holy Trinity: . . . .

Widburg: An archaeologist has apparently found Sennacherib’s 2,700-year-old camp outside of Jerusalem
One of the big lies in today’s world is that the Jews are white supremacist colonizers, while the people in Gaza and the West Bank are the region’s indigenous inhabitants. In fact, the contrary is true. Jews long predated Muslims in the region, as described in the Bible. Now, there’s more evidence that Isaiah, 2 Kings, and 2 Chronicles all accurately describe the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem 2,700 years ago. During the reign of Hezekiah of Judah in Jerusalem and Sennacherib in Assyria, the mighty Assyrian kingdom attacked Jerusalem (around 701 BC). We know it happened because of a clay prism from Nineveh, Assyria’s one-time capital, describing a great victory there. However, we also know of it because of the Bible, which describes a huge Assyrian loss rather than a victory. Here are the key points (for purposes of this post) from 2 Chronicles chapter 32. The story picks up after the prophet Isaiah told Hezekiah that he must have the kingdom clean up its act and live again by God’s word: […] One doesn’t have to believe in God to be awed by the Bible, whether as a profound moral treatise that provides an infallible guide for a thriving culture or as an accurate history covering the Ancient World up to the early years of the Roman Empire. This accuracy explains why the people in Gaza and the West Bank, whenever they stumble across ancient ruins, destroy them as quickly as possible, for they prove, irrefutably, the Jews’ ties to the land and the Muslim role as invader, destroyer, and colonizer of an ancient and continuous indigenous Jewish nation and culture.

Riley: Glenn Loury’s Glaring Honesty
Is there a woman alive who can resist the charms of Glenn Loury? The answer, at least in Loury’s telling, is no. For the past 60 years, according to his new memoir Late Admissions, Loury has been seducing colleagues, students, strangers in bars, and wives of friends, almost all while he is a married father. Why is he telling readers all this? Other reviewers have wondered. Friends advised him against it. He says he wanted to tell the truth about everything or we wouldn’t believe him about anything. If nothing else, readers will come to see him as a man of voracious appetites. And once we understand his seemingly uncontrollable desires for sex (and drugs), we will also begin to see clearly his intellectual hunger and promiscuity. At one point, one of his teenage sons asks him why he can’t just stay put, why he insisted on taking a job in Providence when his family lived in Boston. “Where are you? You’re missing in action. Why are you always somewhere else?” Loury’s devastating answer: “Because I’m bored.” “That was it,” he reflects now. “At home, puttering around the house, attending to the minutiae of domestic life, I would become restless. When the family wound down at night and headed for bed, I’d find myself itching to get up, go out and find some action.” His desire to find action led not only to all sorts of extracurricular activities (though sometimes Late Admissions makes these seem less “extra” and rather the main event), but also to a meteoric and zigzagging career through academia.
