The overlapping roles are under scrutiny as the president distances himself from his family’s dealings. For years, Joe Biden shared a bookkeeper with his son, Hunter. He also shared a personal lawyer with his brother, Jim. And when Jim Biden wanted to know more about one of Hunter Biden’s associates, he hired the former head of Joe Biden’s Secret Service detail to investigate. Since 2019, Joe Biden has repeatedly distanced himself from his family’s business dealings, saying that he has never so much as discussed them with his relatives or with anyone else. But House impeachment inquiry interviews, public records and emails reviewed by POLITICO show that members of his inner circle were regularly enmeshed in those dealings: Many of the president’s closest staffers and advisers have doubled as his relatives’ business associates, both during and after their stints working for the man at the center of the Biden family orbit. Those overlaps reflect an all-in-the family approach to business and politicking that dates back a half-century to the president’s first Senate bid, run primarily by his parents and siblings. Turley: Laptop Deniers in Delaware: The Media Shrugs as the Biden Laptop is Authenticated in Federal Court

Watching the coverage this week out of Delaware was like finding oneself in a parallel universe. There were ABC, NBC, CBS, the Washington Post and other news outlets reporting matter-of-factly that the Hunter Biden laptop showed no evidence of tampering and was both real and authentic. These are the same outlets, and some of the same reporters, who eagerly spread the false claims that the laptop was “Russian disinformation.” Yet, what followed the testimony of FBI agent Erika Jensen was absolute crickets. There was no effort to track down the signatories of the now-debunked letter from former intelligence officials just before the election. In the letter, figures such as Leon Panetta, former CIA director in the Obama administration, claimed that the laptop had all the markings of a Russian disinformation effort by intelligence services. (Panetta continued to make the assertion even in late 2023 in pushing what the federal government is now calling a “conspiracy theory.”)

It’s a key factor in determining the former president’s sentence. Will Donald Trump avoid prison? It may depend partly on his ability to convince a probation officer that he would be “amenable to supervision.” That’s according to Martin Horn, a former commissioner of both the New York City Department of Probation and the city’s Department of Correction, who spoke to POLITICO Magazine about the process Trump is about to undergo as he tries to stay out of the slammer. In a typical case, a convict will be interviewed by a probation officer in the days after the verdict and be given the opportunity to accept responsibility and present mitigating factors that could reduce any sentence. That is going to be difficult for a man who has constantly railed against the case against him — not to mention the very judge who will decide the sentence.

[…] “My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted,” the commenter said, adding a celebration emoji. “Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!!” Defense attorney and legal analyst Philip Holloway told the Daily Caller News Foundation the comment could be “potentially very significant.” He noted the judge would have to send the notification based on the fact that the individual claims to have spoken to a juror, even if the poster’s identity has not yet been confirmed.

I think that it was the great Miranda Devine, she of the “laptop from hell” fame, who first called the world’s attention to the latest wrinkle in the long-running “Get Trump” extravaganza in New York. Anyway, I first heard about it from her post on X Friday. “If this is legit,” she wrote, commenting on a letter purportedly from Acting Justice Juan Merchan to Donald Trump’s Counsel and the Manhattan DA’s office, “it should wipe out Trump’s conviction.” Eh, what? At issue was someone who (again, purportedly) posted on the Court’s public Facebook page a message from one “Michael Anderson,” a self-described “professional shitposter,” who claimed to have inside information that Trump was about to be convicted. “My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted. Thank you folks for all your hard work!” The comment, Merchan wrote, was posted on May 29, a day before Trump’s guilty verdict rolled off the tongues of Merchan’s jury. For a brief moment, the internet was ablaze with speculative comment. . . .

In a letter, House Judiciary Committee chairman U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) accused Bragg of having committing a “political prosecution” against Trump, requesting him to testify at a hearing June 13. Still, in my opinion, if Trump wins in November he would be remiss if he didn’t give the Democrats a taste of their own medicine.

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) “is using private companies in South Africa and China to hire former fighter pilots from Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and other Western nations to train PLA Air Force and Navy aviators,” the bulletin said.

Dong’s remarks, entitled “China’s Approach to Global Security,” made on June 2nd at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore defense conference, unequivocally targeted Taiwan and the United States. Admiral Dong’s address was notable for three reasons. First, its belligerence. His remarks included statements that the PRC’s military was ready to “forcefully” stop attempts by Taiwan to gain independence. This is an important statement as it is an indicator of the confidence that Admiral Dong, and by extension, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) top leader Xi Jinping, have about the capacity and capabilities of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). If Biden and his handlers have taught us anything, human nature cannot be fooled, and the current four-year experiment will have to end before it ends us—and soon. Still, leftists look around at what they have done to America in the last four years and implicitly know that the plan did not work, the people detested it, or both. How do we know this? By a variety of barometers. None of the major Biden “achievements”—10 million illegal aliens across a nonexistent border, key components of the cost of living 25-30 percent higher than in 2020, wars and chaos abroad, DEI racial and tribal obsessions, wars on fossil fuels—poll at even 40-45 percent. Biden’s own approval ratings, as the nominal architect of the most left-wing agenda since the Roosevelt administration, hover between 36 and 34 percent. But most importantly, the left is not running on its record of the last three-and-a-half years but instead studiously ignoring it, at least temporarily through November.

The Wall Street Journal has a straight news story on the rescue operation that extracted four Israeli hostages from two apartment buildings in Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp, or “refugee camp.” The rescue teams included the IDF, the Shin Bet, and the elite police counterterrorist unit (Yamam), whose squad leader was killed in a shootout at one of the apartments. Israeli commandos radioed to the command center once they had extracted the four hostages: “We have the diamonds in our hands.” The Journal story includes details on the operation along with the video below. At one point the video cites “the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza” — an arm of Hamas and a well-known source of Hamas propaganda — not that the Journal hasn’t relied on it before. What is to be said? Pathetic.

Support for Hamas has increased since the October 7 attacks. [Note: Gazans voted in Hamas for their government multiple times. In a recent poll, 70% of Gazans support Hamas.].
