So-called plant-based meats, lab-grown meats, “synbio” products, insect protein, and other totally new foods are to replace much of the real meat people enjoy — potentially leading to even greater consolidation of food production. This would allow “rewilding” of grazing areas, allowing them to return to their natural state and, it is claimed, this would be kinder to the planet. But would it?

Dillard University will get the $19 million federal grant and the city of New Orleans will get a $50 million federal grant to combat a “climate crisis.” Marc Scribner, a senior transportation policy analyst with the Reason Foundation, said buying electric bikes for a small number of families was not an appropriate use of federal funding. Scribner said the federal government should be more focused on big-picture solutions. […] Besides buying the electric bikes, the $19.9 million grant given to Dillard University will be used to expand bike-sharing programs, install electric vehicle chargers and having several building retrofit with solar and energy storage.

A complaint was filed on Friday before the U.S. District Court in Maryland presenting evidence that the USPS acted illegally in shipping at least one million mail-in ballots from a facility in Bethpage, New York to Pennsylvania on October 21, 2020. The suit was brought by attorney Brian Della Rocca, but the critical evidence was collected by two friends of mine — John Moynihan and Larry Doyle. Full disclosure, I have known John since 1998 and we were partners in BERG Associates, LLC. John, in my opinion, is one of the best financial and forensic investigators in the world. Hands down. Here is the bottom-line — the truck driver, Jesse Morgan, picked up a container filled with 20 Gaylord boxes. There were mail-in ballots in each of the Gaylords. A Gaylord can hold from 50,000 up to 100,000 ballots. Do the math — Mr. Morgan was transporting at least one million mail-in ballots (already filled in with signatures on the envelopes). So, what you say? The mail-in ballots are First Class mail. Every piece of First Class mail is supposed to be imaged per USPS regulations. The facility where Morgan picked up the load of ballots is ONLY certified for handling packages and Express Mail. There is no legal justification to account for those ballots to have passed through that warehouse. […] Let me give you the highlights of the complaint and John’s affidavit.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Monday that it had captured Islamic State ‘facilitator’ Khaled Ahmed al-Danal on September 1 with support from Syria Democratic Forces (SDF).CENTCOM said al-Danal was ‘assessed to be aiding efforts of detained IS fighters’ days after five ISIS terrorists held in the Raqqah Detention Facility escaped on August 29. The attempts to free their fighters held in detention is part of the terror group’s bid to fuel ‘ISIS revival’, CENTCOM said. ISIS terrorists recently claimed responsibility for shocking attacks in Germany and Russia as well as a foiled terror plot on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna. The SDF have since recaptured two of the escapees: Russian national Imam Abdulwahed Akhwan and Muhammad Noh Muhammad from Libya.

The first black female police superintendent of Toronto, Canada was demoted after she reportedly admitted to helping several black police officers cheat in order to get promoted. According to The Toronto Star, Supt. Stacy Clarke leaked confidential exam questions to six black police officers and “played the lead role in perverting their moral compasses,” a police tribunal heard. The tribunal ruled this as “extremely serious” misconduct.

Land acknowledgments are perhaps the most popular, anodyne product of the academic field known as settler-colonialism or, more logically, settler-colonial studies. You’ve probably gotten stuck sitting through a land acknowledgment at some university event or theater performance, but they’re not terribly uncommon at business openings or groundbreaking ceremonies either. What is uncommon, we learn in Adam Kirsch’s new book, On Settler Colonialism: Ideology, Violence, and Justice, is to find settler-colonial ideologues among the indigenous populations of the West. Like other social justice movements claiming to speak for minorities, it’s mostly a white thing. As Kirsch, editor of the Wall Street Journal’s Weekend Review section, rightly argues, it’s also dangerous and delusional. […] What exactly is this nonsensical ideology based on? Kirsch does a fine job of detailing settler-colonialism studies logic, such as it is. Its central tenet states that “Invasion is a structure, not an event.” This popular quote from the field’s leading Australian scholar, Patrick Wolfe, means that once a people arrive at and settle in a land where there is an indigenous people, the entire edifice of the society is a frozen invasion and rendered illegitimate—until settler “futurity” is vanquished. This sounds comically broad because it is.

The words “clattered out in a rush” on his typewriter, morning after morning; he finished on March 18 and put the completed manuscript in a blue manilla folder in his desk drawer. He was 43. In six days, he was getting married for the first and last time. The legend grew, with Fleming’s help, that he wrote the book to keep his mind off the pending nuptials, the prospect of which put the dedicated womanizing bachelor a bit on edge. Fleming wrote a new Bond novel every year until he died in 1964 at 56: twelve thrillers in all and two collections of stories.
